Tofu Protein Boost
Lately I have been enjoying this Banana Coffee Smoothie in the morning as a way to enjoy a cold drink with a coffee jolt. Since I try to boost my protein more as a pescatarian, I decided to create a creamy and delicious Chocolate Tofu Smoothie made with tofu into my diet.
As a vegan or vegetarian, it can be difficult to meet the body's protein needs. This is something that I am always working on for myself. For this reason, I like to supplement my diet with tofu to help add protein to my diet.
Tofu is an option for vegetarians and vegans alike for added protein. It is a low carb, high protein soy product that will take on the flavor of whatever it is mixed with. Tofu can be purchased in many forms and textures from silken (super soft) to extra firm. It is a very versatile ingredient that is easy to replace animal protein in the diet.

Silken tofu, I like to use this shelf stable brand and have been using it for well over 30 years now. They also make soft, firm, and extra firm shelf stable tofu.
Almond milk, be sure to choose unsweetened almond milk.
Chocolate sorbet (choose a dairy free sorbet, there are sorbets that contain dairy)
Cocoa powder, I use this brand cocoa powder. I find this brand is excellent for gluten free flours as well as affordable.
Maple syrup, I like to use Grade A, Amber maple syrup.
Cinnamon, this is the brand I like to use.
Vanilla extract, this is the brand I like to use, it has excellent flavor and is very affordable.
🍽 Equipment
Blender, I own this blender. It is excellent for making smoothies and has a great ice crushing feature.

This Chocolate Tofu Smoothie will make two large servings. This can be one serving if desired and used as a meal replacement. See tips below for how to add protein (vegetarian version)

- Place the almond milk, sorbet, tofu, cocoa, maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Add the ice cubes and continue to blend until frosty.
💭 Tips To Boost Protein
- To boost protein more, add a plant based collagen powder. I like to use this brand. It adds a whopping 15 grams of protein in 1 serving.
- Skip the sorbet and add 2 tablespoons of all natural peanut butter or almond butter (more protein!)
📖 Variations
- Substitute a fruit sorbet for the chocolate and eliminate the cocoa powder.
- Use cashew, coconut, or oat milk in place of almond milk.
- Make it sugar free and substitute with a sugar free sorbet
